Lenten Observance
The Sundays of Lent –
Following the pattern set on Ash Wednesday, each Sunday in Lent we will use a traditional Lenten Rite, extinguishing one Lenten candle each week as we recall the story of Jesus Passion. By remembering what has been done for us through Christ’s sacrifice we prepare ourselves for the glory of Easter morning, the resurrection of Christ and the renewal of our faith and spiritual life.
Second Hour Programs During Lent – 11:15 A.M. Room 206
A series of Second Hour Programs will be offered with an emphasis on different spiritual discipline each week. Pick up a copy of “My Preparation for Easter” with suggestions for keeping a spiritual Lent in the lobby or narthex this Sunday. Here are the Second Hour topics remaining during Lent
March 7- Journal keeping
March 14 – Prayer
March 21 - Forgiveness
March 28 – Priorities for Spiritual Growth
Palm Sunday – March 28 – 58th Communion Breakfast
The men of the church are invited to gather in the sanctuary of the church at 7:30 A.M. for the celebration of Holy Communion, followed by breakfast in the Foundation room and a special program. This will be the 58th Annual Palm Sunday Communion Breakfast. The Annual Communion Breakfast is a good time for the men of the church to gather and share worship together. In some families three and four generations make a point of keeping this tradition alive. We hope YOU will join us.
There will be a traditional Palm Sunday Worship Service at 10 o’clock.
Maundy Thursday – April 1 – Communion and Service of Tenebrae
We will gather at 6:30 P.M. in the Foundation Room for a simple soup supper followed by Holy Communion shared around the tables and then the very moving service of Tenebrae. Tenebrae, which literally means “shadows”, involves the reading of the Passion narratives while lights in the room are extinguished, leaving the worshipers in darkness and silence. This can be a powerful experience and is not recommended for young children.
Good Friday – April 2 –
The labyrinth will be available for walking and meditating in the Foundation Room from 3 to 9 P.M.
